They'll be hopeful of building bonfires in Burrishoole again in a few weeks to welcome home the Connacht Senior champions, after Colm McMananamon's side booked their place in the provincial showpiece following a 0-15 to 2-6 win over Glencar-Manorhamilton on Bank Holiday Monday in McGovern Park.
That win has sent Burrishoole on a collision course with reigning All-Ireland champions from Galway, Kilkerrin-Clonberne in the Connacht senior final. The two sides will meet on Sunday, November 13 in Fr O’Hara Park, Charlestown.
One thing Burrishoole have learned over the past few months is how to grit it out and win and game and they had to do so again last Monday against a lively Leitrim outfit.
Maria Cannon was the main player on the scoreboard hitting seven of her sides points - but they also need strong showings from the likes of their experienced defender Clodagh McManamon and her twin sister Ciara in defence, while another McManamon sister Feena was in good form in attack getting two vital points. Other big performances came from Aishling McNulty, Lucy Wallace, Rachel Baynes and Caroline McManamon.
Burrishoole will be delighted to have gotten over the challenge of the Leitrim outfit, but they will know they will have to up their performance level another notch come the final against Kilkerrin-Clonberne the weekend after next.
Doherty does it again for Charlestown
Deirdre Doherty followed up her heroics from the Mayo LGFA Intermediate final where she kicked 2-6 for Charlestown in their victory over Lousiburgh, by going out and hitting 2-6 again in her next game.
The east Mayo scoring sensation was the key player for her side in their 3-7 to 0-6 win over Boyle in their Connacht LGFA semi-final last weekend, where Charlestown booked a spot in the provincial final against Leitrim outfit Kiltubrid on Saturday, November 12 in St Croans GAA, Ballintubber, Roscommon.
While Doherty will rightfully take the headlines, it wasn't a one woman show with the likes of Aisling Feely, Julia Gawalkiewicz and Nora McGovern all key players for Fergal O'Gara's side.
