Claremorris Musical Society is back Working 9 To 5!

The members of national-award-winning Claremorris Musical Society are back doing what they do best!

These busy folk are delighted to be returning to rehearsals once again, this time preparing for their 17th production, the hilarious musical “9 to 5”, with music by the legendary Dolly Parton.

The show tells the story of three women pushed to boiling point by their sexist, chauvinistic boss. Having concocted an hilarious plan to kidnap and turn the tables on their despicable boss, will the ladies ‘shine like the sun’ and manage to reform their office – or will events unravel when the CEO pays an unexpected visit?

“9 to 5 The Musical” will take to the stage in Claremorris Townhall Theatre from February 1-5, 2023. This will be the first time the Society has done a five-night run but following on from the overwhelming success of its last sell-out and award-winning production, “Sister Act”, the decision was made to put on an extra performance for this production.

This is a sure sign that C.M.S. is continuing to go from strength to strength and is now regarded as one of the leading musical societies in the west. The very talented and experienced C.M.S. Production Team of Donna Ruane, Director, Deirdre Lee, Musical Director and Claudia O’Sullivan, Choreographer, were delighted with the standard of talent at auditions which were held over a very busy weekend in September. A stellar cast has been put together for what promises to be another fantastic show.

Vivienne Lee, who was earlier this year awarded the Association of Musical Societies (A.I.M.S. ) award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Mother Superior in “Sister Act”, returns to take on the role of the feisty ‘Violet Newstead’. Nicole Scott returns for her second year with C.M.S. playing the gentle and innocent ‘Judy Bernly’. Returning to the stage with C.M.S. is local girl Elizabeth Murphy who takes on the role of charming country-loving ‘Doralee Rhodes’. Misogynist ‘Franklin Hart Jnr’ will be portrayed by David Alexander and his biggest fan ‘Roz Keith’ will be brought to life by Maria McNulty.

Other principal players include Mike Flaherty (Joe ), Mervyn Fahy (Dwayne ), Gearóid Herraghty (Dick ), Karen Ronane (Missy Hart ), Gerard Scott (Tinsworthy ) and Paddy O’Brien (Josh ); June Allison-Keane (Kathy ), Emma Gallagher (Maria ) and Josie Gallagher (Margaret ).
