Tourism blow to Cong after axing of bus route

The village of Cong could be dealt a serious economic blow with the news that Bus Éireann is to cut the route from the town to Galway city. The national bus operator announced a number of cut backs on routes across the country last week including the axing of this route which came a shock to those in the area.

Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony said: “It’s a huge blow to Cong and in particular the tourism industry. The area relies heavily on tourism on a year round basis but particularly during the summer months and this decision is a major body blow”. He also said that when tourists arrive in Galway they expect a public transport service to be available to bring them to somewhere with the history of Cong.
