The worries over McHale Park being ready for the Connacht semi-final show between Mayo and Roscommon on Saturday June 20 is still up in the air, but it is looking likely that the game will go ahead at the Castlebar venue. Speaking to the Mayo Advertiser yesterday Mayo County board chairman James Waldron was confident that the go ahead will be given.
“Everything is looking well for the game at the minute. We had an inspection of the ground on Wednesday with the Connacht Council, and both us, and the builders, gave them assurances that the ground will be ready. The pitch is a building site at the moment, but the seats have started to go in and you will see the ground come on a lot over the next few days and weeks. We will be having another inspection of the ground next week with the Connacht council, but we are very confident there will be no problems at all.”
Prenty hopeful
Connacht Council secretary John Prenty was also hopeful that everything would be ready for June 20. “We had the inspection on Wednesday and have been given assurances, by both the county board and the developers, that the ground will be ready in time. We still have the game fixed for there and we will be going back next Thursday to have a look again. Hopefully everything will be ready to go, otherwise we will have to pull the game from there and move it to Hyde Park.”
