Mayo women perform well at mini-marathon

Mayo AC women athletes and the Fif4Life group from Claremorris were among the 40,000 who took part in the 27th Flora Mini Marathon 10k in Dublin on Bank Holiday Monday. The race was won by Rosemary Ryan (Bilboa AC ) in 34.27.

It was a difficult day for running with the high temperatures and the massive crowd being major factors. Angela O'Connor had a great race finishing in 42nd place overall 42.01 and was well up in the over 40 age category.

Other Mayo AC and Fif4Life finishers included Sarah Syron, -50.34, Nadine Dabbagh and Chris Clarke both in 52.35. Full credit also to Tracey Durkin, Marion Durkin, and Marie Mahon who completed the course.

Meanwhile the winner of the women's race in Cork City Marathon was Lucy Brennan (Sligo AC ), who was recently second to Catherine Conway in the Carramore 10k. Lucy retained the title she won in 2008 in an excellent time of 2.51.25, 13th place overall, which is a brilliant achievement by the 50-year-old athlete.
