The lack of proper countywide broadband has shown how Mayo has been let down by central Government according to one candidate in the Ireland North West constituency.
Libertas leader Declan Ganley said: “It is beyond belief that Eircom has no plans to upgrade 23 of the exchanges in Mayo. These upgrades are vital for a proper broadband service.” He went on to say that the lack of a proper broadband infrastructure was costing the county jobs. “The availability of a high speed broadband network is a necessary part of the infrastructure for business and is vital to attracting sustainable employment.”
He said there was an undue delay in rolling out the service to cover the entire county and there seemed to be a disconnect between the various parties given the task of sorting out the issue. “The importance of a high-speed broadband service is vital for Mayo and cannot be underestimated. We need to employ all our skills nationally to roll out broadband infrastructure which will improve sales times and connectivity to the rest of the world,” Ganley said.
