Last year's beaten finalists in the junior championship Cill Chomain kept up their winning start to this year's campaign with a big 8-13 to 0-3 win over Moygownagh last weekend, with Justin Healy (2 ), David Walker, Eoghan McGrath (2 ), Martin Geraghty and Joe Corduff all finding the net in their win for Paul McGarry's side.
Eastern Gaels got their campaign back on track with a 5-11 to 2-13 win over Ballycastle, and with the winners facing Moygownagh in round three and Ballycastle up against Cill Chomain, the Brickens based outfit look in good shape to head into the quarter finals of the competition.
In group two Swinford made short work of Ballycastle as they look to get out of junior at the first attempt seeing off the north Mayo men 2-14 to 0-7 with Johnny Burke and Sean McDonagh getting the goals for the east Mayo side, the win sealing their spot in the quarter finals. The other game in the group saw Ardagh book their place in the last eight with a big win over a Kilfian side who weren't able to field a team the previous week.
In group three, which is a three team group, Killala wrapped their involvement in the group stages with a narrow one point win on a score of 1-12 to 1-11 over Kilmovee Shamrocks. With just one game left to play the meeting of Kilmovee and Islandeady in Kilmovee, the current standings have Islandeady and Killala on two points with Kilmovee on zero points - but it will all come down to scoring difference if Kilmovee can turn over the west Mayo men at home when that game come around, with Islandeady on +3, Killala on -2 and Kilmovee on -1 ahead of that game. It's all a waiting game now for Killala.
Group four is done and dusted in terms of the race for the spots in the last eight with both Tourmakeady and Shrule-Glencorrib picking up their second wins on the spin last weekend. Tourmakeady had a 1-20 to 0-7 win over Lacken while Shrule-Glencorrib were 2-15 to 1-7 winners over Achill, all that is left to decide is which team tops the group when they meet in Ballinrobe in round three.
