After busy summer months of workshops and a wholly encompassing art exhibition, the Linenhall’s live programme is back with a bang this September, featuring a wide spectrum of music performances.

First up on the schedule is ‘Mick Flannery with Jeffrey Martin and Anna Tivel’ on Sunday, September 11. As one of Ireland’s most acclaimed singers and songwriters Mick Flannery’s songs are fluent in expressing layered aspects of the human condition - its flaws, triumphs, and general uncertainty. This time Mick will be joined by two of America’s most prestigious musicians, Jeffrey Martin and Anna Tivel for what promises to be a magical evening.

Jeffrey Martin writes music that probes the depths of the human experience and doesn't shy away from its darkest corners. His songs can feel like short stories from literary giants like Steinbeck, Burroughs, or Cormac McCarthy and possess a raw intensity that comes from seeing his subjects up close.

Oregon based songwriter Anna Tivel’s newest album ‘Outsiders’ starts with a lens so wide we’ve left the planet to look back from a great distance at the turmoil and beauty of our shared humanity. From there the lens pulls close and unfolds in a gripping collection of stories so often ignored. Tivel’s flawed and honest characters move through a landscape of hurt and loss, of small triumph and big love.

Then to Tuesday, September 13 when the Linenhall is excited to host ‘Drawing From The Well’, an evening of traditional music, song and dance in the company of four leading contemporary traditional artists, inspired by the great archival collections. Brían Mac Gloinn, of award winning duo Ye Vagabonds provides lead vocals and is accompanied by master of the concertina, Cormac Begley, Mayo’s Laoise Kelly on harp and Edwina Guckian as dancer.

This showcase is destined to be as visual a delight, as it is an acoustic one, featuring some of the most prominent names on the Irish folk music scene in recent years. As part of an event tour stemming from a monthly series of the same name, presented by the Irish Traditional Music Archive, Drawing from the Well connects Ireland’s leading contemporary traditional performers with the great collections, to inspire new work.
