Outdoor recreation in Mayo to benefit from funding boost for walking trails

Community groups responsible for managing 34 walking trails totalling €70,200 in Mayo will receive grants between €1,000 and €3,000 under new funding announced this week.

Fine Gael TD Michael Ring welcomed the announcement, saying: "Trail walking is a great activity for families in Mayo to enjoy the great outdoors and explore our hidden gems this summer. These trails also attract visitors to small businesses in our rural towns.

"The community groups receiving the grant in Mayo can use it to maintain, improve and promote its use to locals and visitors. This vital work is done by the groups which are known as Community Trail Management Organisations."

The Mayo trials to receive funding are: Clare Lake / McMahon Park Development Committee, Kilmaine Village Enhancement Group, Crossmolina Community Council, Keenagh Community Development, Martin Neary Woodland Park - Management Group, Claremorris Chamber of Commerce, Murrisk Development Association, Dooagh Loop Walk Committee, Kilmaine Village Enhancement Group, Moygownagh Community Council, Tochar Valley Rural Community Network, Cross Loop Committee, Achill Tourism, Brickens Greenway, Comhar Dún Chaocháin Teoranta, Coiste Forbartha Chill Dawnait and The Valley Slí Tóin a tSeanbhaile Group / Féile Tóin an tSean Bhaile,
