Western Lakes Cycling Club take on Mizen to Malin cycle

JJ Burke Car Sales, Ballinrobe, are thrilled to support Western Lakes Cycling Club in their fundraising campaign for Aware by providing them with a van on their ‘Mizen to Malin’ cycle.

This July a team of 10 will be taking to the road with their bikes, making the 630km journey over a three-day period. With only two stops on the journey the team are hoping their six months of training will get them through an average of over 200km a day.

Alan Stephens of Western Lakes Cycling Club said at the launch: "We are so grateful to JJ Burkes for providing us with the van, it really does make a difference. We are hoping to raise a minimum of €5,000 for Aware.

"They do amazing work providing free support to those impacted by anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and other mood conditions. Aware undertakes to create a society where people affected by these conditions are understood, supported, free from stigma, and are encouraged to access appropriate therapies.

"They rely on the generosity of donations from the public for 75% of its entire income each year. Without this valuable support, Aware would not be unable to provide the vital support and services needed in Ireland today. All of the monies raised during the cycle will go directly to Aware."

Western Lakes Cycling Club is based in Ballinrobe, County Mayo and covers a large hinterland of South Mayo and North Galway. It was founded in 1999 and has continued to grow ever since and now has over 150 active members from primary school age to active retirees.

Joseph Burke from JJ Burke Car Sales added: "This is a great initiative, and we are just happy to be able to help in any way we can. Fair play to the cyclists, it is going to be a tough three days. We wish them a safe and successful journey. We have no doubt they will reach their goal."

The journey starts in Mizen head, Cork on July 15 and will finish in Malin Head, Donegal, on July 17. For more information or to donate to this great cause go to https://gofund.me/82d0fb2b and give what you can.
