Chambers welcomes approval for 22 new homes in Newport

The Department of Housing has given approval in principle to Mayo County Council and Tuath Housing, Association for a turnkey development at Black Oak Rise, Barrack Hill, in Newport, for the construction of 22 homes in total, to include a mix of houses and apartments - according to Senator Lisa Chambers.

Senator Chambers stated: "The homes are being funded under the CAS (capital assistance scheme ) which is specifically for homes for people with a disability, homes for older people, or homes for homeless individuals.

"Housing is a key issue for many people in Mayo and it is a top priority for the government.

"Mayo County Council recently submitted its Housing Delivery Action Plan to the department and has committed to an ambitious program for housing delivery across Mayo with the delivery of over 1,000 new homes out to 2026.

"This is fantastic news for Newport and for Mayo to see new homes coming on stream. There is huge demand for housing in this beautiful and busy part of Mayo and no doubt they will be a great addition to the town."
