The Mayo Ladies senior footballers will look to put the disappointment of losing the Connacht final to Galway three weeks ago behind them when they get back on the field tomorrow afternoon in the opening round of the group stages of the All Ireland Senior Football Championship.
Michael Moyles' side have been pitted in a group alongside Dublin, Cavan and their opponents tomorrow, Tipperary. The Munster side were beaten in their provincial semi-final by Kerry on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-8 four weeks ago.
They competed in division two of the National Football League earlier this year, finishing in third place in Division 2A, picking up a solitary win over Clare and going down to defeats to Kerry and Laois.
In their Munster semi-final loss Emma Morrissey was their leading light hitting six of her sides eight points, with Anna Rose Kennedy and Emma Cronin getting one point each.
Mayo were beaten by four points by Galway in Tuam Stadium in the Connacht final four weeks ago on a score of 1-12 to 1-8 in a game where they got off to a slow start, with Galway leading by 0-7 to 0-1 at one stage.
While they will be disappointed to have lost the game, they will take heart from their fight back in the second half against the Tribeswomen.
Moyles will be looking to the likes of Shauna Howley and Lisa Cafferkey to lead the line up front against the Premier County, while the likes of Aoife Geraghty, Saoirse Lally, Fiona McHale, Kathryn Sullivan and Danielle Caldwell will be looking to keep things tight at the back and keep the Tipperary attack out.
Mayo will be hoping to pick up the points in this game before the make the trip to Cavan next weekend for round two, if they could get two wins from those two games they should have their progress to the knock-out stages wrapped up before they face Dublin in round three on the final day of the group stages of the competition.
