Lidl Ireland was delighted to open its brand-new store in Claremorris last Thursday, June 2.
The new state-of-the-art store is guaranteed to offer shoppers Lidl’s renowned range of top-quality products at market-leading prices. Lidl’s fifth store in Mayo will see a significant local investment of more than €6 million and will create 35 permanent jobs in the locality, bringing the total number of Lidl employees in the county to more than 130.
Claremorris customers will be able to use the retailer’s innovative reverse vending machine – the second of its kind introduced to Lidl stores – which will enable customers to deposit used plastic beverage bottles and aluminium cans in return for money-back vouchers, redeemable in-store.
The move underscores Lidl’s position as an industry leader in sustainability and is the next phase of the retailer’s trial as they prepare for the government-led national Deposit Return Scheme set to begin later this year. Lidl were the first retailer in Ireland to roll out a trial reverse-vending machine in September 2021.
Following this initial trial period in Lidl’s Glenageary store, the retailer has carefully selected Claremorris to be the site of their second machine. Lidl Glenageary customers have actively embraced the initiative which has meant that the retailer has collected close to 300,000 containers in total.
As well as the introduction of the innovative reverse-vending machine, Lidl Claremorris boasts a modern store design that has a spacious interior layout with a new 1,546 sqm shop floor that has high ceilings, and wide aisles, which creates a comfortable shopping experience for all. This new store will feature a range of additional sustainable features such as roof-mounted solar panels and electric car charging points.
