Glorious orchestral music and gospel singing will combine to mark the first concert in a number of years for both Mayo Concert Orchestra and Chapel Street Gospel Choir, who are joining forces in a not-to-be-missed heavenly performance at Claremorris Town Hall Theatre on Thursday June 2.
The ‘Spirit and Soul’ concert led by Musical Director Kathy Fahey, will feature the award-winning Chapel Gospel Choir in collaboration with Mayo Concert Orchestra as they deliver high-energy renditions of some much-loved songs and music, such as Peace Train (Cat Stephens ), Circle of Life (The Lion King ), You'll Be in my Heart (Phil Collins ) and Higher Love (Steve Winwood ) - as well as gospel hymns - Rise Up, Thou O Lord, Taste and See and Even Me.
Rehearsals for the concert have been taking place over recent months at Unit 19, Castlebar Business Park, on the Breaffy Road in Castlebar - which is to enjoy its official opening as the home of Music West - incorporating Mayo Concert Orchestra, Castlebar Town Band and Mayo Youth Orchestra, on Saturday May 28 next.
Both musicians and singers are greatly looking forward to this first return to the stage following the Covid pandemic and hope to enjoy the support of the Mayo public with a large turnout for the concert next week.
“It has been a difficult past couple of years for everyone,” said Musical Director Kathy Fahey, “and this concert will give people a chance to go out, have fun and enjoy some fantastic performances.”
After having to cancel all plans due to the pandemic, both groups felt that combining their talents would produce a wonderfully powerful, stirring and resonant sound, and considerable work and preparation has gone into this performance. The concert will be a first-of-its-kind for County Mayo and will be something of a ground-breaking collaboration for the two musical groups, both acclaimed in their own right.
Presenting a wonderful mix of uplifting, energetic and spirit-filled songs with the vibrant sounds of orchestral arrangements, is certain to provide an amazing treat for the senses, making this an unmissable concert for lovers of great music and instrumental sounds.
The concert starts at 8pm on the night and tickets can be had from Claremorris Town Hall Theatre Box Office at 094 931 0999 and www.townhall.ie
