Ballinrobe gearing up for a community day to remember

Plans are at an advanced stage for Ballinrobe’s Community Day in the Parish Centre on Saturday, May 21.

The main purpose of the event, which will run from 1pm to 3pm, is to allow locals to vote on the proposals that emerged from the recent Community Futures process. The proposals will be displayed on the day and ample voting boards will be available to ensure all preferences are captured.

Among the indoor attractions will be displays of the entries in the art, photography and story competitions. In the car park, local clubs and organisations will host promotional stands and children will be entertained by a face painter and a balloon modeller.

Ballinrobe Men’s Shed will provide musical entertainment, while transition year students from Ballinrobe Community School will perform musical numbers from their production of The Wizard of Oz. There will be dancers, a plant your own seeds table, and an environmental display. Senior members of the community will share stories from days gone by. There is no charge to attend.

On the same day, The Racecourse will host a festival of running and renowned Ballinrobe tenor Sean Costello will stage a concert from 7pm to 9pm in the Library. Tickets, costing €20, are on sale in usual outlets. For more information, visit the Believe in Ballinrobe or Tacú pages on Facebook, or call (087 ) 4111343.
