A World of Wonder at The Linenhall’s Workshop Week

Over the coming week, the Linenhall will be a hive of activity, with a variety of workshops for all ages, interests and starting points taking place. You’re all invited to flex your creative muscles, pick up a new skill or build on an existing talent, just in time for the summer months.

It all starts with the latest instalment of the Linenhall’s extremely popular Family Art Sessions on Wednesday May 11, led by their Community Artists, Isaac and Daniel. This month’s theme is ‘Return of the Swifts’, which celebrates the homecoming of these magical, migratory birds that have taken up residence in the Linenhall’s custom built swift boxes.

Swifts only reside in Ireland during the warm summer months and what better way to herald the return of those long summer days than with a specially designed workshop for the whole family, where children and their adults make memories and art together. The event is free but donations towards materials are greatly appreciated. Suitable for children between four and ten years old, spaces are limited so booking in advance is highly recommended.

Then to Friday, May 13, when the Linenhall is proud to present ‘Writing History’ with Terry Reilly. For those who yearn to learn how to write about history or historical fiction, this workshop equips participants with the necessary tools, resources and tips on how to bring the past to life. A rare opportunity to learn from someone with over thirty years of experience in historical literary knowledge, your guide, Terry Reilly is an award-winning author of local history, as well being former editor of the Western People.

An annual, international celebration of collage is held on the Second Saturday of May so the Linenhall are honouring it by hosting a ‘World Collage Day’ workshop on May 14 led by GMIT lecturer in contemporary art practices, Hazel Walker. The aim of the day is to connect artists across borders, against a global context of entrenchment and separation. With collage being an art medium that excels at bringing different things together to create new forms and new ways of thinking, it is aptly represented.

Tickets for each workshop are available via www.thelinenhall.com or by contacting box office directly on (094 ) 9023733.
