Luton-Irish band release foot-stomping Mayo Day lament

Castlebar - the new single from Missing The Ferry - is released on Friday, April 29 - just in time for Mayo Day 2022. The tune is about the emigrants' yearning to return home to Ireland, which remains strong even as their grip on life weakens.

For many, they never make it unless in a casket or urn. Despite such a serious subject matter, ‘Castlebar’ is an upbeat celebration of life, of music and of London-Irish culture.

Beginning with a heart-felt poem inspired by Beatrice Mugan and performed by the band's mother, Roseanna, both Roscommon Town girls who - in 1966 - came to London and St Albans to become nurses; the track is also a nod to the mighty Mayo - opponents in many a great Connaught final tussle with the band’s own Roscommon.

Missing The Ferry are a second-generation Irish band from Luton made up of three brothers: Paul, Kevin and Chris Anderson along with their best friend Kevin Cunningham. They spent their childhood summers visiting Roscommon and would always tie in a trip to neighbouring Mayo sampling the numerous beauty spots on offer - and a few pubs too, of course.

Missing The Ferry are busy finishing off their debut album with spring and summer performances due throughout London, Luton and the South East of England. They hope to make it across the Irish Sea to perform one day.

Their music can be found via Bandcamp and other major streaming sites. Missing The Ferry are also on all social media platforms, including YouTube where a video for the track ‘Castlebar’ has been filmed at the iconic Cock Tavern in Somers town, London.
