Taoiseach Micheál Martin this week launched the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation’s Strategy 2022 - 2026. At the launch, it was announced that Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation will fund 2,600 home help hours for Palliative Patients in both Mayo and Roscommon this year.
The 2022 – 2026 strategy theme is ‘Together We Can Do So Much’ and builds on what has been achieved over the last five years. During this time, Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation has built, fitted out and opened two state-of-the-art Hospice facilities in Mayo and Roscommon. The new strategy reaffirms the commitment to fund both of these facilities and to continue to provide vital palliative care services to the people of Mayo and Roscommon.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin said: "I wish to commend Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation on the success of the last five years, in terms of fundraising over €15 million and building two hospices in Mayo and Roscommon. This was achieved thanks to the strong support of communities in the region, as well as everyone involved at the Foundation in driving forward its vision for palliative care services.
"The 2022-2026 strategy sets out a clear path to expand the high quality care already available to patients with life-limiting conditions, and their families. I want to thank the palliative care teams in Mayo and Roscommon providing these essential services to their communities. The 2,600 home help hours will be very much welcomed by families who require additional support in the home."
CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice, Martina Jennings, said: "I’m delighted to announce today that 2,600 home help hours will be funded through the Foundation this year. This will give families that much required additional support in the home. It’s a gift of time to the families in our care and will make a huge difference to their lives. This will be done in partnership with the HSE, and through our Palliative Homecare Teams.
"We have very ambitious plans for the next five years and we’re very much looking forward to getting them underway. We will collaborate with the HSE in terms of further developing palliative care services in our region, and with our network of fellow hospices nationally, we will represent the voice of patients and their families by engaging in national policy formation."

We’re immensely proud of what has been achieved in the last five years and that’s down to the wonderful community of fundraisers we have behind us. Without them, Mayo and Roscommon Hospices would not exist and these services would not be available to the people of Mayo and Roscommon. We are committed to continuing to fund palliative care services in our communities and developing these services further."
