New hybrid-only Honda Civic on the way

Honda has announced that its 11th-generation Civic will be available for the first time in Europe later this year.

The Civic e:HEV (hybrid electric vehicle ) will pair a 2.0-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and will complete the brand’s electrified European line-up.

It is the latest Honda to be offered exclusively with e:HEV technology, joining the brand’s other electrified models: the Jazz, Jazz Crosstar, CR-V, HR-V and Honda e.

The new Civic is powered by Honda’s e:HEV powertrain consisting of a newly developed 2.0 litre direct injection Atkinson-cycle engine, two electric motors, a new Power Control Unit and Intelligent Power Unit.

Honda says it delivers a maximum motor output of 135 kW and 315Nm of torque and offers strong, reassuring handling and straight-line stability.

The Civic e:HEV is targeted to achieve CO2 emissions of less than 110 grams per km in WLTP testing.

Four drive modes are equipped - ‘Eco’, ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and a new ‘Individual’ mode, which allows separate control of the engine, transmission and cluster gauge display, and can be selected by the driver to tailor the vehicle response as required.

Honda says that it has included a comprehensive suite of advanced safety features which are offered as standard. This includes a new 100-degree front wide-view camera and enhanced recognition technology, which improve the Civic’s capacity to identify pedestrians, road lines, boundaries, and other vehicles including motorcycles and cyclists.

Also for the first time, the new Civic e:HEV is equipped with sonar sensors – four at the front and four at the rear.

Meanwhile, the nine-inch centred touchscreen has been moved upwards to minimise up-and-down eye movement.

The Honda Civic e:HEV will be available throughout Europe from Autumn 2022, with Irish pricing expected closer to this date.
