“Following the appointment of the successful tenderer, the IDA is confident that these works will commence and be completed before the end of the year.”
Minister Calleary also confirmed that the IDA has planned capital works for a new park entrance and provision of an access road and services into the park, with the invitation to tender for these works scheduled for early 2010.
“Ballina has been waiting a long time for this development to reach fruition. The town and the entire north Mayo region has a lot going for it and recent Government investment has increased its attractiveness as a place of industry and business. Ballina’s natural environment and educated available workforce, coupled with recent investment in broadband services, the MANS system, provision of natural gas, and other infrastructural improvements have greatly increased the potential of the area for industry and ultimately employment opportunity. The technology park will be the final piece of the jigsaw,” said Minister Calleary.
RAPID status for Ballina
Those battling for improvements in investment, facilities, and services for Ballina were given a great boost yesterday when it was announced that the town was confirmed with RAPID status. Minister Calleary confirmed the news to the Mayo Advertiser. “I’m delighted to say that Minister Eamon Ó Cuív has just given me the news that Ballina has been given RAPID status it will be a great boost to the town and hopefully see it grow and develop more. It was a tough process, but the town made a very good submission to be conferred with the status, something myself and Cllr Johnny O’Malley had been working on very hard alongside town clerk Carmel Murphy and town manager Paddy Mahon.”
