New social prescribing link worker for Flourish North and West Mayo

Lisa Marren is the new social prescribing link worker for Flourish North and West Mayo. This is a new service in Belmullet/Erris, Achill & surrounding areas and is part of the Sláintecare Healthy Communities Initiative.

Flourish North and West Mayo is delivered by The Family Centre, Castlebar. The Family Centre has successfully run the Flourish project in Castlebar, Claremorris and surrounding areas for the past 10 years with very positive outcomes and evaluations

Flourish North and West Mayo offers adults in Mayo a free and confidential service whereby participants are connected with supports in their community such as courses, classes, activities and events which will increase their sense of fulfilment and enjoyment in life.

Lorna is available to meet with adults over 18 years of age on a one-to-one basis to determine what might interest them in areas such as: social groups, arts and creativity, physical activities, learning new skills, further education, outdoor activities, support groups and ways to self-care.

People who might benefit from social prescribing include: (1 ) A person who has recently been through or is going through transitional life events such as moving to a new area, bereavement, becoming a new parent, unemployment, retirement, family or relationship difficulties, loneliness, or isolation; (2 ) Somebody who attends their GP very regularly and who, with the support of a link worker, would be willing to explore ways in which they can bring about positive changes in their own lives; (3 ) A person who has social anxiety or may have low self-esteem and who would benefit from having more connections in the Community and (4 ) A person with mild mental health issues
