The Connacht Indoor Athletics Championships for seniors and masters were held at Athlone TUS arena on Saturday evening February 19.
Mayo AC had six athletes competing among over 150 seniors and masters, and they were rewarded with an excellent total of 11 medals.
In the Women's W35 400m, Noelle Kilduff finished in first place to win gold in a time of 68.33, she also took gold in her age grade in the 200m in a time of 32.01. Her winning run at the W35 grade continued in the 60m, taking gold in a time of 9.21.
Keith Conroy finished in fifth place in the M35 400m in a time of 60.92. In the men's 200m senior Declan Owens won gold in a time of 24.33, with Patrick Moran winning the gold in the m60 grade in a time of 33.87, while Keith Conroy was the bronze medal winner in the M35 category at the distance in a time of 26:11. Owens and Conroy also impressed in the 60m event with Owens finishing in this place overall in a time of 7.53 and Conroy taking third in the M35 category in 8.06.
Patrick Moran went home with golds in the M50 high jump for his jump of 1.25m and in the M60 200m finishing in a time of 33.87. The men's 4x200m relay team also took gold with the team of Sean Hynes, Declan Owens, Keith Conroy and John Brennan finishing the race in a time of 1:47.06. Full results at www.mayoac.com
Mayo athletes to be honoured at the B & J Chambers Mayo Athletic Awards
All roads lead to the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, this Sunday, February 27, when Westport Athletic Club will host the 2020/21 B & J Chambers Mayo Athletic Awards.
This is one of the premier sporting events in the county calendar. Athletes from all over Mayo will be honoured for their contribution to athletics during the past two years. Certificates or awards will be presented to all athletes who won national and international medals in 2020 and 2021.
Mayo is privileged to have so many fantastic athletes representing their clubs and county with distinction in all aspects of athletics. The categories will be: Special Achievement, Extraordinary, Outstanding, High Achievement, Achievement and Team Awards.
