Mayo make the trip to London this weekend

GAA: National Hurling League

Mayo will be hopping on a plane this weekend and heading for London Town for their second round clash against the exiles in the National Hurling League and hoping to come home with two points in the bag.

Mayo opened their league account for the season last weekend with a home clash against Wicklow in Ballina, where they looked to have done the heavy lifting to pick up a win - only to get stung by a late rally of scores for the Garden County, to come away from James Stephen's Park with a draw.

The Londoners made the trip to O’Donnell Park in Letterkenny last weekend, where Donegal saw them off by 17 points on a score of 3-16 to 0-8, and Mayo will be looking to make it two losses from two for them this weekend in Ruislip.

Mayo will be disappointed to not have seen off the challenge of the Garden County last time out, having built up a solid lead on a number of occasions throughout the game. They led 1-10 to 1-5 at the half-time whistle with Sean Germaine getting an early goal for the visitors, only for Mayo to respond with Eoin Delaney rattling the back of the net for Mayo's first goal, along with good scores from Keith Higgins and Aaron Kettrick. They did have a chance to extend their lead early in the second half when newly announced team captain Shane Boland, was fouled and a penalty awarded, however Keith Higgins' effort was well saved by Robert Fitzgerald. Mayo though kept up the pressure with a couple of scores from Adrian Phillips who finished the day with six points to his name and a second foal from Delaney looked to have them heading for the showers with points in the bag.

However John Tommey rattled the back of the Mayo net four minutes from time and a scores from Germaine and Andy O'Brien were enough for the Wicklow men to head home with a point under their arms.
