Castlebar proves lucky for lotto winner

The winner of the €19 million jackpot in last Saturday's Lotto draw, who bought the winning ticket in Castlebar, has made contact with the National Lottery.

The ticket-holder became the largest ever jackpot winner of the lotto in the game's history, after matching six numbers in last Saturday night's 'must-win' draw, following an historic number of roll-over draws in which there was no outright Lotto Jackpot winner.

The winning quick-pick ticket was bought in Laura's XL Store on Hopkins Road in Castlebar. speaking earlier this week, store proprietor, Laura Scriney, spoke about the excitement she felt on receiving the news that her store sold the winning ticket.

She said: "The entire county really has been buzzing with chatter about the Lotto jackpot since the weekend with everyone wondering where exactly the winning ticket was sold. When I heard that our store was the lucky location, I was in a complete state of shock.

"I knew that it was a Castlebar shop but finding this out was completely overwhelming! I am only in business since 2019 so this is certainly a big moment for me and my family.

"Saturday night was such a huge draw and one that’s been the talk of the town for the week now so we are absolutely over the moon to have played a part in this. The winner truly is the luckiest player in Ireland now and we wish them all the very best with their win."

It wasn't just the jackpot winners who were celebrating last Saturday night's lotto draw, as eight other lucky winning tickets in Mayo were sold that matched five numbers and the bonus number, with each of those tickets winning €36,687 - not quiet €19 million - but still a nice win.
