Increase in PUP and enhanced illness benefit recipients in Mayo

There was a slight increase in the number of people in receipt of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in Mayo in the two weeks since December 21, according to the latest figures up to January 4.

There were 1,445 people in receipt of the payment in the county, up from 1,209 at the end of December, an increase of 236. Those figures are still far lower than the peak times during the pandemic over the past two years, with the 2021 peak seeing 13,306 people in the county in receipt of the payment on February 2 of that year and the 2020 peak coming on May 4, when there were 16,496 people in receipt of the payment.

There was also a jump in the number of people in receipt of the Covid-19 Enhanced Illness Benefit over the past two weeks with 6,794 people in receipt of the payment in Mayo on January 4, up from 6,255 on December 21, an increase of 539 people.
