Gardaí in Mayo have urged people to not click on links or give their bank details to anyone, to avoid getting caught by scammers.
Speaking at the final Mayo County Council Joint Policing Committee (JPC ) meeting of the year, Detective Superintendent Joe McKenna said: "We get reports on a daily basis of people getting conned out of money, through text, email and cold call scams."
He reiterated the simple advice not to give your details to anyone who contacts you looking for them, saying that 'banks will not contact you looking for these details, even if they look like they have come from a legitimate source' and if people are in any doubt, to contact their bank or financial institution directly.
