At the final meeting of the Mayo County Council Joint Policing Committee (JPC ) for 2021, which took place last Friday, Gardaí outlined the crime statistics in the county for the year.
Detective Superintendent Joe McKenna told the JPC that the number of assaults causing harm had increased by two, up from 54 to 56, while there was a 16 per cent increase in minor assaults, up from 195 to 226.
In regard to burglaries, there was an increase of ten from 85 to 95 on the previous year, in relation to robberies, there was an increase from two to four, while ordinary thefts were down from 164 to 150 this year.
Thefts from cars also reduced down from 44 to 38, thefts from shops were up from 196 to 201 and there were no thefts from persons reported so far this year, down from four in 2020.
Public order offences increased marginally, going up from 237 to 240, and there was also a reduction in criminal damage offences, down from 279 to 265 this year.
