Four sensory gardens in Mayo to receive funding

Funding of €105,626 has been announced for four sensory gardens in locations across Mayo.

Announcing the funding, Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary said: "I am absolutely delighted to have secured this funding for the development of sensory gardens in four Mayo locations. I want to compliment the successful groups for their applications – it was a pleasure for me to support the applications and ensure Departmental funding for all.

"Ballina Sensory Garden has been allocated the largest amount with €65,000 in funding secured; Western Care Association will also be developing gardens in Ballyhaunis (€30,126 ) and Newport (€5,000 ), while Rehab Group Castlebar has been allocated €10,000.

"I am particularly delighted to secure the funding for Ballina Sensory Park – a lot of work has been undertaken by Western Care, Flow Community Project and Ballina Community Clean-up and I know that when I had Minister Rabbitte visit earlier this year she was extremely impressed with the proposal and with the level of community engagement as evidenced by the Freeze4February fundraising efforts. This is great news for the county and I look forward to the works commencing on all projects in the new year."
