Citizens Information Centre

Mayo Citizens Information Service will hold an outreach on Wednesday May 27 at the Cosgallen Office, Enterprise Centre, Airport Road, Charlestown, from 9.45am to 11.30am.

The service is free and confidential and a wide range of areas are covered including consumer and employment rights, social welfare, taxation, and disability information. For further information contact Cosgallen CDP on 094 925 5070.

Unemployed?

Are you currently unemployed? The Local Employment Service will hold an outreach in Cosgallen CDP, Charlestown, on Wednesday June 3 from 10am to 12 noon. To book an appointment call 094 925 2657.

Walking group

The next walk organised by the Barnacogue/Killaturley walking group will take place on Wednesday May 27 at 7.30pm. The meeting place is at the Meelick Crossroads on the old Castlebar Road outside Swinford. All are welcome.

Garden club outing

The Ballina and Mayo North Garden and Flower Club are going on an outing to Lorna McMahon’s Garden in Galway on Sunday May 24.

Irish summer camps

Conradh na Gaeilge are organising Irish Language Summer Camps all over Mayo during the summer. These camps are aimed at children aged between seven and 13, the camps are run through Irish. Activities include cooking classes, drama, art, music, dance, pottery, and sport.

The camps are held for one week, in different areas, depending on demand. Famine walk

The annual Afri Famine Walk from Doolough to Louisburgh takes place this year on Saturday, May 30 under the theme ‘Power Concedes Nothing Without Demand’.

The annual Famine Walk is a walk of remembrance and resistance and all those who are interested in reflecting on causes of injustice and commemorating those who died in the Great Famine are invited to come on this 10 mile journey.

Walk leaders this year are Willie and Mary Corduff (Erris ), Philip Ikurusi (Niger Delta ), Gary Whitedeer (Choctaw ) with Donal O'Kelly and Sorcha Fox performing a short extract from the writings of Frederick Douglass.
