Mayo football saw another legend step away from the inter-county game with the news this week that Colm Boyle has decided to step away from the county scene after a glittering career in the green and red.
A fans' favourite for his hard-working, all action style of play, the Davitts clubman leaves the scene with an All Ireland u21 winners medal, four All Star awards, six Connacht Senior Football Championship medals, two Connacht u21 championship medals and one National Football League winners medal.
He made 120 league and championship appearances for Mayo over a 14 year career with the county, making his debut in 2008 as a sub in league game against Kerry in MacHale Park and his last as a sub against Leitrim in this year's Connacht Senior Football Championship in the same venue.
After being out of the Mayo thinking from 2009 to 2012, he battled his way back into the side in 2012 and never looked back from then on - becoming one of the finest wing backs in the country and one of the best ever players seen in the county.
Paying tribute to Boyle, Mayo GAA Chairperson, Liam Moffatt, said this week: "On behalf of Mayo GAA I would like to sincerely thank Colm for his outstanding commitment and service to Mayo GAA. Colm was an exceptional underage player for his club Davitt's and followed these very high standards up when he progressed to inter-county football. His absolute commitment to the cause, whether it be a training session or an All-Ireland Final, never waived and he inspired so many with his endeavours. Mayo GAA wishes Colm and his family the very best of luck in the future."
