The initial project approval for an expansion of Ballyhaunis Community School has been welcomed by local politicians.
The initial project approval for two new SEN base classrooms, five general classrooms, one science lab/pre area and one art room and art store, was granted this week under the Additional School Accommodation Scheme.
Welcoming the announcement, Fine Gael Deputy Michael Ring said: "I am delighted to see initial approval issuing for these works for Ballyhaunis Community School. I look forward to the works progressing and I am sure that the teachers and students will benefit from the additional accommodation in their school."
His party and constituency colleague, Deputy Alan Dillon, also welcomed the news, saying: "This is a welcome extension to complement this well-recognised school. I wish Principal David McDonagh, Staff and students continued success going forward."
