Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary has hailed the sod-turning on the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramrogue Road Project as a ‘huge day’ for Mayo and Roscommon.
"I was delighted to be present as An Taoiseach Micheal Martin turned the sod on the new N5 extension - an investment of €200 million in the region," said Deputy Calleary.
"Construction will take three years involving the building of 34km of new roadway from the end of the existing Ballaghderreen bypass, bypassing Frenchpark, Ballinagare, Tulsk and Strokestown and rejoining the current N5 at Scramogue between Strokestown and Tarmonbarry.
"As well as transforming these Roscommon communities this new road will transform access to Mayo. It’s a good day but I know there’s lots more work to be done on road and rail infrastructure in the region. I’m keeping at it," he said.
