Croí Glan presents In Place at Ballina Arts Centre on Sunday

Following a critically-acclaimed premiere at the Irish Museum of Modern Art during Dublin Fringe Festival, Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company is presenting its latest work In Place at Ballina Arts Centre at a free afternoon performance on Sunday, October 10, with a version of the choreography that has been tailored specifically for the Ballina venue.

This latest production by Croí Glan, whose work highlights the value of diverse bodies and who work with dancers both with and without disabilities, offers a feast for the senses, and has been choreographed by Croí Glan ‘s Co-Artistic Director Tara Brandel to interplay with the individual art spaces where it is being performed.

Comprising a solo and a duet, the work plays with the relationship between the fragility and durability of the soft human form, and the surfaces and spaces of architecture. Ray Harman has composed the music, and costumes are by Angharad Matthews whose previous collaborators have included NoFit State Circus.

In Place One performed by Tara is a solo inspired by the works of De Chirico with images of forlornness and emptiness that paradoxically also convey a feeling of power and freedom. As someone with dyslexia, Tara experiences her neurodiversity through a heightened sense of spatial awareness. In Place One draws upon and embodies this distinct experience and reflects on feelings of isolation and our place in the world.

In Place Two is an intimate duet for Croí Glan Co-Artistic Director and disabled dancer, Linda Fearon, and male dancer Leighton Morrison, exploring longing and connection within the limitations of place. This duet offers a complementary insight and experience to In Place One, reflecting on our relationship with others and revealing how our environment shapes our trust, attachments and closeness through touch, balance and exquisite movement.

In Place will be preformed at the Ballina Arts Centre on Sunday, October 10 at 4pm, tickets are free but booking is essential at [email protected] or (096 ) 73593.
