Mayo GAA will be on the look out for a new chairperson after the current holder of the position Liam Moffatt informed the county board executive that he will not be seeking to retain the position for a third year.
Moffatt informed the executive at a meeting on Monday night that he will be stepping down from the role at the county convention which will take place before the end of the year.
In a statement from Mayo GAA PRO, John Walker issued after the executive meeting on Monday night the PRO said: "At a meeting of Coiste Bainistí tonight our Chairperson, Liam Moffatt, informed the officers of the board that he will not be seeking a nomination for a third term as Chairperson of Mayo GAA at our upcoming convention.
"The Chairperson indicated that his decision was based on business and personal reasons. I would ask that our Chairman be given the respect he deserves for making a very difficult decision.
"Nominations for Convention will be sent out by Mayo GAA to Clubs in the coming weeks. Once nominations have been submitted, they will be communicated to the Clubs."
Moffatt who has played for Mayo at every level was an All Ireland Club winner with Crossmolina in 2001 and up to his election at the convention in 2019 held the position of coaching officer for the county. Moffatt has had a challenging two years in the role, with the Covid-19 pandemic encroaching on all GAA activities a matter of months after his election - in both years he served as chairperson Mayo reached the All Ireland Senior Football Championship final.
The battle to replace Moffatt will get under way in the coming weeks, with interested candidates looking for clubs to nominate them for the position.
