Punk comes back to Castlebar

A great night of punk music has been announced for the Velvet Lounge of the Royal Theatre in Castlebar on November 20.

Three bands so far have been announced to perform on the night, and include Thumper, Turnstiles and Bicurious, as part of the ongoing Finbar Hoban Presents series of gigs.

After blitzing Eurosonic Festival, Thumper catapulted into 2020 performing a 10 date UK tour, topped off with performances across Belgium, Germany and France.

Thumper are a noise-pop quintet from Dublin, delivering bubblegum pop through a wall of sonic death. With a reputation for raucous and frenzied live shows, and a penchant for howling feedback and pounding rhythm, each show is an exercise in unpredictability.

Last summer Thumper released their debut EP “Out of Body Auto-Message” (produced by Daniel Fox of Girl Band ) to a sold-out show in Dublin’s Lost Lane, before embarking on a three-month festival tour which included key slots at Primavera (Barcelona ), Knockanstockan, Body&Soul, Electric Picnic and many more.

The latter half of 2019 saw the band complete their first headline tour of the UK, including sold-out shows in London and Bristol, before finally returning to Dublin for their second homecoming sell-out of the year in The Grand Social. Check out their new single Ad-Nauseam on Spotify now.

Also on the night, expect to see the brilliant Turnstiles and Bicurious. The Galway band have been making waves on the scene since they released their debut EP The Turnstiles EP last year.

The first band of the evening, Bicurious, are Gavin Purcell and Taran Plouzane, a confused, loud, experimental two-piece from Dublin, Ireland and Brest, France.

They’ve built a loyal fan base through extensive touring and have won over crowds both at home and abroad, establishing themselves as a recognisable force on the European instrumental rock scene.

Tickets for this exciting night of music are now on sale and are available online from Eventbrite, go to www.finbarhobanpresents.com for more details.
