EirGrid is encouraging community groups and organisations located close to the North Connacht 110kV Project to join a new community forum.
The project will enhance the electricity network in the area and connect new renewable generation onto the national grid.
A best-performing underground route for the project, which runs from Ballina to Ballaghaderreen, was recently announced.
Now, the national electricity grid operator is looking for people from areas across Ballina, Foxford, Swinford and Ballaghaderreen to join the forum and represent the views of their communities in relation to the development of the project.
An information evening will be held on Thursday, September 23, via Zoom, to inform communities and stakeholders about the forum.
Sinead Dooley, Head of Public Engagement with EirGrid, said: "The North Connacht 110kV Project Community Forum brings together people and organisations from across the project area in Mayo and Roscommon so that their views can be discussed, understood and properly considered before and during project delivery."
The forum will receive project updates and will provide guidance to the EirGrid Project team on any relevant community issues. The forum will also oversee the implementation of the community benefit fund and communicate information to a wider group of regional and local stakeholders.
Membership of the forum will be fully inclusive and consist of representatives from local community and voluntary organisations in the project area. Membership is also extended to local public representatives.
Irish charity, Development Perspectives, has been appointed as the independent chair of the North Connacht 110 kV Project Community Forum.
