Council chief to meet again with GAA over proposed Lough Lannagh development

The chief executive of Mayo County Council, Kevin Kelly, will be meeting with Mayo GAA next week to discuss the proposed development of a centre of excellence by the GAA at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar.

The issue of the proposed development was raised at the September meeting of the local authority by Cllr Michael Kilcoyne, who had requested that a report on the progress of the proposed centre be given to the elected members.

Both Cllr Kilcoyne and Cllr Blackie Gavin told the meeting that the project was a priority for the town and it needed to be acted upon, but it has stalled since it was initially announced in 2018.

The chief executive told the meeting that it was his intention to update the members during September on the project, but it was not necessarily going to be at the council's monthly meeting. He said that he had recently held a meeting with Mayo GAA on the project and had another one scheduled to take place next week and he would come back to the members before the end of September with an update on the current status of the proposed project.
