Live events are finally back at the Linenhall Arts Centre and there is an incredible line-up confirmed this autumn. Acclaimed musicians Tara Breen, Pádraig Rynne and Jim Murray will perform on the Linenhall stage on Thursday, September 16, with an upbeat performance filled with joy and wonder, as they shape melodies from past and present into something dynamic and irresistible.
Audiences will experience music of the highest calibre from these exceptional trad musicians. Tara Breen and Pádraig Rynne released their album, Nasc, this year and it’s been described as “a joy throughout” by the Irish Times, “serving as a poignant and timely reminder of what we’ve been pining for over the past 16 months: the heart-thumping, foot-tapping delights of a live session.” Jim Murray completes this terrific trio. Lauded as one of the best and most respected accompanists in traditional Irish music, fans of the genre witnessed Murray in action at the Linenhall in January 2020 for the Galician and Irish trad session with Anxo Lorenzo, Dónal O’Connor and Jack Talty.
Another unique and colourful approach to traditional music can be enjoyed on September 23, 2021, as the immensely talented, Belmullet born David Munnelly and Sligo’s Shane McGowan showcase well-known traditional repertoire alongside new compositions. This harmonious pairing has been playing music together for nearly twenty years and it shows!
Intimate audiences of 30 ticket holders can attend as the Linenhall will continue to allow both vaccinated and unvaccinated audience members entry to all events. Once restrictions are lifted on Friday, October 22, the arts centre can resume full capacity once more. Early booking is advised on all events up to Friday, October 22.
The Linenhall’s renowned RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Season kicks off its diverse and eclectic series of events and arts engagements for children, with ‘Grass Films’. This double-bill of quirky dance films aimed at 4-7 year olds will be available to view online from Saturday, September 18 at 7am until midnight on Sunday, September 19. Shot in the great outdoors, each film celebrates the magic of the natural world - rolling in long grass, finding spiders in the park and the warm feeling of the sun on your face. Accompanied by interactive activities with or without audio description, there is also a series of sensory films available for children who explore the world in a sensory way.
In other news of note, the Linenhall Arts Centre has some great new job opportunities for those interested in joining their team, including a full-time General Manager, a Community Relations Officer for contract work and a full-time Wait-Person in their popular coffee shop. The General Manager position is an exciting and challenging role for any professionals out there wishing to be an integral part of the arts community in Mayo.
The role of Community Relations Officer is a new fixed-term contract position for candidates experienced in engaging, and working with a diverse variety of local groups, particularly those who are not currently engaged with the arts. A good listener and communicator is essential to the role as the Linenhall embarks on a new Audience Development Strategy, aiming to benefit all in the community.
Job seekers experienced with indoor dining should consider the Wait-Person position as they would join the fun and friendly coffee shop team, serving the Linenhall’s loyal customers and audiences who have dined there for many, many years. Full details on all events and positions are available on the Linenhall’s website: www.thelinenhall.com or through Bernadette Greenan at [email protected].
