Closing date approaches for Laochra Mhaigh Eo

Mayo GAA is reminding supporters at home and abroad that the closing date for their Laochra Mhaigh Eo Hero’s Wall fundraiser is this coming Sunday, August 15.

The Wall will be on display in Hastings MacHale Park in the coming months and anyone wishing to purchase a tile to be part of the history of MacHale Park can log on now to www.mayogaa.com/thewall The novel fundraiser was officially launched on St Patrick’s Day with the aim of raising the necessary funds to carry out the redevelopment work on the MacHale Park pitch.

These works are due to begin next week with the ground closing for a number of months to allow the work to be completed. When the pitch reopens in 2022, all Mayo GAA teams will have the benefit of playing on a state of the art, resurfaced, MacHale Park pitch.

The fundraiser has proven to be a great success since its launch five months ago, with sales coming from across the globe. Outside of Ireland there have been significant sales in the UK, USA and Australia.

There have also been sales from across Asia, particularly from the UAE and Hong Kong and even Saudi Arabia, with those who have purchased tiles keen to recognise their personal heroes and show their support for Mayo GAA.

Tiles have been purchased to honour various milestones and personalities across the GAA. Past victories, club achievements, deceased teammates and fellow Mayo supporters are among the dedications and names to be seen on the tiles that will shortly be on display in MacHale Park.

Chairperson of the Cairde Mhaigh Eo fundraising group, Ciaran O’Hara, is urging supporters to act before the deadline of August 15. "The closing date is approaching fast and we want to see as many supporters and clubs as possible represented on the Hero’s Wall in Hastings MacHale Park. A tile is an ideal way to honour a personal hero - be that a loved one, a friend, or that someone you always stood with you at the game."

There are a number of tile packages available to choose from with a number of these offering payment via instalments. This project has been approved by Revenue as an Approved Sports Project and any donations made by a business will be allowable for tax deduction purposes.
