The Linenhall Arts Centre is thrilled to announce the reopening of its building after seven long months of closure, with lots to engage with for artists and audiences alike.
A diverse calendar of events will be kicking off with the visual art exhibition ‘Ping-Pong’, by Sarah Wren Wilson, in the refurbished Linenhall gallery this month.
Wren Wilson has close connections to Mayo, having visited frequently over the past 24 years. She was due to exhibit at the Linenhall in summer 2020, however, she was forced to reschedule multiple times due to restrictions and closures over the past 14 months.
"We can’t wait to welcome Sarah to the gallery and finally see her work displayed on our historic walls. Ping-Pong is striking and innovative and we hope it will evoke interesting conversations for our audiences," commented Linenhall Director, Bernadette Greenan.
Opening on Friday, August 20, for a period of eight weeks, sadly there will be no official launch due to current circumstances, but the Linenhall welcomes the community to come and meet the artist between 12pm and 4pm that day.
The submission period for the ‘Arts for Young Audiences Residency 2021’ is still in play as the Linenhall Arts Centre is offering an artist residency for up to two collaborating artists working in the area of arts provision for children.
While the residency is open to artists working in any art form, submissions from musicians and visual artists are particularly welcome this year. Resources available to the artist(s ) include a fee of €3,000 per artist; a stipend toward mentorship and/or materials; and Linenhall Arts Centre studio space. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, August 18 at 5pm and full details are available on the Linenhall’s website.
Live events are a reality once more at the Linenhall as vocalist Iarla Ó Lionáird, harpist and sound artist Úna Monaghan, and cellist Kevin Murphy are welcomed to their renowned stage on Saturday, September 4.
This sold-out performance is being brought to Mayo by Music Network and will be held in front of an intimate audience of 30, as per the current guidelines.
"We’ve really missed live music and know that the online experience just isn’t the same. We’re counting down the days to our first live gig and are really looking forward to sharing it with our audiences," said Greenan.
The Linenhall Coffee Shop, which reopened on August 10, now encompasses two indoor and two outdoor seating areas to cater for their valued customers, with socially distant seating available for everyone’s comfort and safety.
The Linenhall team is looking forward to welcoming friends, old and new, back to the building and is optimistic of some busy and productive months ahead. Full details of the autumn programme will be available via www.thelinenhall.com in the coming weeks.
