Child protection in sport
A four hour workshop over two evenings on the Code of Ethics and Best Practice in Sport will be held in the Mayo Education Centre, Old Westport Road, Castlebar, on Tuesday May 19 and Wednesday May 20 at 7.30pm.
The course is facilitated by the Mayo Sports Partnership and is for children’s officers and/or designated persons, sports leaders, and other adults involved in the organisation of sport for young people. Places are limited. Contact 094 904 7025.
Famine Walk 2009
The Action from Ireland Famine Walk 2009 will take place on Saturday May 30 beginning in Louisburgh at 2pm.
AFRI is a group of committed and creative people who seek to promote debate and influence policy and practice in Ireland and internationally on human rights, peace and justice issues. Walk leaders will be Willie and Mary Corduff (Erris ); Philip Ikurusi (Niger Delta ), and Gary Whitedeer (Choctaw ).
Féile na Tuaithe
On Saturday May 23 and Sunday May 24 from 12pm to 5pm Féile na Tuaithe, a free family event will take place at the National Museum of Ireland, Country House, Turlough.
The two day event will include craft and artisan food stands, children’s activities, storytelling, music, community arts project, face painting, demonstrations, and workshops.
On Saturday May 23 from 2pm to 3.15pm (adults ) and 3.30pm to 4.30pm (children ) drawing workshops in association with the National Gallery of Ireland will take place.
On Tuesday May 26 from 4pm to 5pm a junior event workshop about clay weaving will take place, while on Thursday May 28 from 2pm to 3.30pm a garden tour with garden restoration supervisor Noreen Hennigan will take place. For more information contact 094 903 1775.

Local heart charity Croí, in partnership with HSE West Mayo Primary, Community, and Continuing Care, has announced details of a healthy heart day in Ballina on Monday May 18 at Ballina Library, Pearse Street, from 9.30am to 4pm.
National Dawn Chorus Day
The Mayo branch of Birdwatch Ireland is holding a dawn chorus walk led by Eoin McGreal from the National Parks and Wildlife Service on Sunday May 17 in Brackloon Woods, Westport.
