Operation Alteration

Well we’ve two classes down and 16 to go and I feel fantastic. We had Mark putting us through our paces on night one with a strenuous circuits class and Nicola ensured our butts weren’t left out on Tuesday with a spinning class. Still wearing the track of the saddle but as they say no pain no gain.

So far so good and two food diaries have been handed in. I can’t wait for some feed back. Never thought I’d say that but when the sun shines and the motivation comes I suppose you need to run with it. I hope she (Nicola ) doesn’t spot that slice of ice-cream I had yesterday evening. I was tempted to leave it off the diary but my eagle-eyed niece was watching and ensured everything was included. Thanks Katlyn. I’ll have you to thank when FHM want me to do a swimwear photo shoot. Yeah right!

I have firmly committed to include every morsel I eat and drink in the food diary this time round. I realise the only person who will be fooled is myself if I try to con any of the staff at Castle Leisure Club. And trust me they’re not for conning.

We’re having our nutrition talk tonight which I’m really looking forward to. You think you know everything there is to know about losing weight, having tried to master the technique for years to no avail, but putting that knowledge into action is the hard bit. And it’s amazing how many new tit bits of information there are to be picked up on how to cut down your food consumption or make exercise more enjoyable.

Nicola told us last night to take a drink of water when we feel hungry as sometimes people mistake thirst for hunger. What a great idea.

It’s also great that everyone on the Operation Alteration course is in the same boat and we can all offer each other advice and comforting words. One woman told me her sister also keeps a food diary and includes in hers how she is feeling emotionally when she eats so she can link the pattern of overeating to her particular moods. I think for us women, emotional eating is a big factor in weight gain. We need to cut it out and start rewarding ourselves with smaller sized clothes or a weekend away rather than slap up meals and takeaways.

I’m refusing to buy rubbish, then it won’t be there when I’m watching Desperate Housewives or Grey’s Anatomy, the only problem is when your house is totally devoid of food it could lead to starvation. God forbid.

Something I did about eight years ago when I successfully lost a stone and a half was to write myself a weekly menu and only buy those foods. That way it was much easier to stick to a healthier eating regime. At the weekend I rewarded myself with a Chinese takeaway but with a healthier option, if there is such a thing. I find if I don’t have a small fix of chocolate each day I’ll just cave in and I find a slim line Dairy Milk bar with only 100 calories or so is sufficient. I’m not sure what Nicola will think about that but I’ve a sweet tooth and have to be realistic. I’m not sure what she’ll think about the Chinese at the weekend either, but I’ll find out what the healthier options are and stick to them. I know chow mien isn’t too bad so I could live with that.
