Ahead of Cancer Prevention Week (May 11 to May 17 ), Lisa Cooney from the World Cancer Research Fund is letting people in the local area know they can make a real difference to their cancer risk by making relatively simple changes to their diet.
Research shows eating plenty of fruits and vegetables probably reduces risk of several types of cancer, and this is why World Cancer Research Fund recommends people eat at least five portions a day of a variety of fruits and vegetables. It also recommends cutting down on intake of red and processed meat, salt, and alcohol because of evidence that these increase risk.
Overall, scientists estimate about a third of the most common cancers could be prevented through eating healthily, being physically active, and maintaining a healthy weight. Eating Well for Cancer Prevention can be downloaded at www.wcrf-uk.org
