Folens, Ireland’s leading educational publishing company, has announced the shortlist for its Golden Anniversary Schools Competition, which has a prize fund of €100,000. Three Mayo schools are now in the running: Ballyhaunis Community School, Davitt College, and Breaffy National School.
The schools competition was launched to encourage and promote the culture of volunteering by students, while assisting the less fortunate in communities across the country. Through the Folens’ Golden Anniversary competition, primary and post primary schools were given the opportunity to win a first prize of €20,000, €10,000 for their school and a donation of €10,000 for a local registered charity of their choice.
Folens asked participating schools to outline, in 300 words or less, how their school currently works with a local charity or proposed to work with their nominated charity in the future. The Folens’ Golden Anniversary schools competition was judged by an independent panel of esteemed judges including Senator Feargal Quinn, Eileen Dunne of RTE, and Tina Roche, CEO of Business in the Community Ireland.
