Mayo County Council and Sligo County Council have welcomed funding for a feasibility study on a potential recreational route from Ballina in Enniscrone.
The feasibility study has been awarded €55,000 through the Leader Cooperation Programme on foot of a joint application by both councils and states: "The study will aim to access possible routes for a recreational trail between Ballina and Enniscrone and assess the various advantages and challenges involved.
"The study will undertake best international practice research in relation to the potential development of a recreation trail from Ballina to Enniscrone, complete a feasibility study to develop a world class walking and cycling trail which can maximise the assets of the area. The study will include a desktop study, research, identify optimum routes and alternatives, engineering costs and business case. It will also include the undertaking of an ecological assessment of a preferred route and the development of a brand and key promotional and marketing tools to market the project."
