Fine Gael Spokesperson on Tourism and Sport, Deputy Alan Dillon, has welcomed confirmation that approval has been granted for the refurbishment of one of the existing Community Playgrounds at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar.
The Mayo playground will benefit from the Local Authorities Play & Recreation Capital Grant scheme and will form part of a wider investment in outdoor spaces for Children’s play and learning.
Deputy Dillon said: "It is great to see funding approved for one of the playgrounds at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar. A key criteria of the scheme is that proposed projects must be accessible and inclusive for all children. Other criteria measured includes the added value of each project to young people and assurances regarding the safety of facilities comprising the proposed projects. In addition, Children’s Minister, Roderic O’Gorman TD, will shortly be announcing details of the Playing Outside Grant for Early Learning and Care and School-Aged Childcare services. There will be welcome funding for services to enhance their outdoor spaces in promoting the outdoor summer in line with Public Health advice."
