Michael Ring TD has welcomed the funding of €400,000 announced specifically for renovation works to the sea wall along the R313 at the location known locally at Bundola (Bunduaile ), Belmullet.
In March 2021 local authorities were invited to submit applications for Climate Adaptation and Resilience Works, for consideration for funding in 2021.
An application was received in the Department from Mayo County Council, which included a scheme for sea wall renovation works on the R313 in Belmullet.
Deputy Ring said: "I understand that the works will comprise of the replacement /raising of the existing wall parapet together the construction of a new concrete render on the sea wall.
"I am delighted that this significant funding is being allocated. The road at the sea wall is often closed due to the flooding at high tide and the wall is the first defence against the flood waters.
"I am hopeful that when these renovations works are carried out that it will prevent this access route from being closed in the future due to the frequent flooding occurrences.”
"I have to compliment Cllr Gerry Coyle on his constant representations in relation to the sea wall. This is something that he has raised with the Council, with the Department and with me. This is an issue that Cllr Coyle raised at every available opportunity."
