Fianna Fáil Senator Lisa Chambers has welcomed the establishment of the first ever Clinical General Practice Lead for Women’s Health in Ireland.
Senator Chambers said she has worked with both the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP ) and party colleague and Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, 'to create this post which will vastly improve women’s health care for all women across the country'.
Senator Chambers stated: "I am delighted to see the establishment and funding of a GP clinical lead for women’s health in general practice. This is the first post of its kind in Ireland and marks a step-change in how we deal with women’s health in this country. I have been working with the ICGP the past few months and was very happy to bring forward this proposal to Minister Donnelly. I want to thank the Minister who was very open to the proposal and has now delivered it.
"This position will improve the provision of health care for women in Ireland. The Clinical Lead in Women’s Health will work closely with the recently established Research Hub for General Practice in order to drive an evidence-based agenda using appropriate data sets to shape general practice development, drive safe patient care, generate information about resource allocation, utilisation, gaps in the service and integration with secondary care."
