Gerard Murphy from Shrule, has been acknowledged for his contribution to dairy farming excellence at the Aurivo Milk Quality Awards.
Now in its 14th year, the awards recognise the standard of excellence in dairy farming by Aurivo milk suppliers, as well as their dedication and commitment to milk production in the previous year. Gerard Murphy received the award for Lowest TBC Liquid Milk.
Commenting on the awards, Donal Tierney, Chief Executive of Aurivo, said: "The Aurivo Milk Quality Awards is an annual award programme which recognises standards of excellence in dairy farming. A family farm for one hundred and six years, Gerard Murphy took over the second-generation dairy farm in 1993. A family affair, Gerard milks 140 Holstein cows on 76 hectares with his wife Frances and their children Emma, Eoin and Ciaran, who all help out on the farm. Awarded for the Lowest TBC in Liquid Milk, Gerard credits this award to his hygiene practice, and the consistency of his milking routine – with an automatic hot wash taking place in the tank after every collection.
