Fine Gael Mayo County Councillor Ger Deere has called on members of the public to park their vehicles in a responsible and in a safe manner when visiting scenic areas walking routes and other outdoor attractions.
Cllr Deere stated that: "Now that restrictions have been lifted in relation to travel within the county and also with the fine weather people are visiting and exploring many scenic areas and recently developed walking routes in bigger numbers.
"As a lot of these areas haven't proper parking facilities so I am appealing to everyone in the interest of safety to park in a responsible manner.
"I have been contacted by several householders and concerned citizens re this issue where vehicles have blocked roadways and in another incident a householder who lives near a forestry walk area is having to deal with cars being parked and blocking their vision on to a busy main road.
"It's great to see people using theses fantastic amenities and since Covid we all have discovered new areas to visit and exercise. Another serious issue that could arise if emergencies services were prevented by vehicles parked in a irresponsible manner from attending an accident or fire at anyone of these locations."
